Tis the Season...

It’s that time of year again, a time of love and goodwill toward men….a time of laughter and merriment, gift giving and mistletoe.  The sweet smells of baking cookies and Christmas trees waft through the air…..mixed in with a bunch of germs and gooey nastiness.

 

You see it’s also the cold and flu season.  Ick.

It doesn’t seem to matter what is going on in our lives or the world around us, we always have many things to be thankful for. 

 

Friends and family are the most important things.  Take the time this season to really pour on the love.  Give lots of hugs and kisses.  Laugh and have fun.  Hold hands.  Re-tell old stories.  Reminisce about those who have gone on before us.  These people are your most precious gifts….cherish them like the rarest of gems. 

Be….thankful.

something to be thankful for.

It's Turkey Season...

‘Turkey Season’ is upon us and you know what that means! (no…not the turkeys you work with), I mean turkey…stuffing …gravy…mashed taters …punkin pie….salad.  Salad??  Nah….

 

It also means a little extra ‘pudge’ around the waistline.  Ugh.  So that means WE need to step it up a little!  By that, I mean EVERY step counts!  And…a good way to help count those steps is by using your very own pedometer.

Iowa Ladies WOW 'em at Candle Convention...

This group of lovely ladies are the Iowa Demonstrators for Gold Canyon Candles.    They were recently in Phoenix, Arizona for their annual convention.

 

Carmen Smith (top left) gave Cindy Taylor at Exceptional Specialty Products a call and told her that her team needed some T-Shirts.  They wanted shirts that would pop and be noticed.  Cindy of course was more than happy to comply!

One of our clients, The American Red Cross wrote us the following letter...the kind of letter we love getting!  Read it for yourself...I left you a little note at the end.

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to share a little about what we are doing with the items we purchased from ESP4all. Also because of the great prices on the hats/gloves/backpacks we were able to get an additional Wii game for the therapy program. Thanks so much for all your help!

Service to Armed Forces Grant Approved!

This will be the first year that we submitted a grant for Service to Armed forces program at our chapter. And yesterday it was announced that we were approved! The grant focuses on two areas, VA Hospitals and deploying soldiers.

For the VA Hospital in Knoxville and Des Moines, Nintendo Wii’s were requested for their therapy programs. At the Des Moines VA  “Going Home” backpacks will be developed for patients leaving the hospital. Of the 3,600 the Central Iowa Red Cross will focus on those whose resources are limited. The determination will be made by the social worker on site at the VA.   The VA has reported that 20% of all 
discharged veterans receiving inpatient care would fall into this category for assistance.   Backpacks will include a water bottle, phone card, blanket, hygiene kit, socks, first aid kit, gloves and a stocking cap.

The second focus is on the service men and women deploying, and their families. We have seen a large surge of soldiers deploying, and we want to be  at each deploying briefing to support them. We were approved for printing costs of our “Get To Know Us” brochures and also informational magnets.

Marathon Man!

SPECIAL ALERT!!!

 

A good…no…a GREAT friend of Exceptional Specialty Products, Mr. Brian Gillette, recently announced that he will be running in a MARATHON!!  Yes, I said ‘marathon’.  That’s 26 miles people!!

 

While I question his sanity, his reason…his purpose, is a very good and noble one.  He is doing as part of ‘TNT’ Team in Training to raise money for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.  They will be running in the Phoenix Marathon this January.  Brian will be running in honor of his mother who has been diagnosed with blood cancer.

 

As part of his fund-raising efforts, tomorrow night, Tuesday September 21^st from 5:00 – 8:00 PM, Brian and his team will be serving as hosts at the HuHot Grill on University in West Des Moines to earn 10% of the gross receipts. 

 

You know you gotta eat, so why not plan to eat at HuHot Grill?!  Put it on your calendar right now!  Call your friends, family and Tweet and Facebook about it!  Support the cause – and remember to tip your wait person generously!

Aye!  Sunday September 19^th is “International Talk Like a Pirate Day”!!  Send ye bar wench on her merry way to grab ye some victuals and a round of grog as you celebrate ye olde ‘holiday’! 

 

And why do we celebrate talking like a pirate?  What’s the point?  Uh…I don’t think there is one, but hey…it’s a reason to use words like ‘ahoy’, ‘avast’ and our all time favorite, ‘ARRRR’!

 

On this day, scurvy bilge rats and land lubbers alike get to put on their best skivvies, grab their hornpipes and some extra booty for a raucous melee with their mateys that’s guaranteed to shiver ye timbers!

 

And don’t forget the Treasure!!  All pirates are required to have at least one chest full of treasure!   

(Yes, it’s a rule…I looked it up)

Doesn't Anyone Have Any GOOD News Anymore?

Floods, famine, pestilence, murder and mayhem!  This is the ‘news’ we get to read about every day.  I KNOW there is good stuff going on in the world, but that never seems to make it on the front page…or the second, or the third…

 

I know for a fact that good news out weighs the bad…it really does.  It’s all around us!  I’m a firm believer that only a very small percentage of folks have no ‘good’ in them….only it never makes the news.  Kinda sad, huh?

 

If you would, allow me to share with you what one of Exceptional Specialty Products's very own clients is doing.  Meet ‘The Pet Project Midwest’. 

 

“The Pet Project Midwest came together in August 2009 when five women, each passionate about animal welfare, began a conversation about their dreams for making Iowa a better place for animals. They soon realized there was a need for action and that by working together they could make their dreams a reality.

Today, The Pet Project Midwest is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals in Iowa and surrounding states. They receive financial support through private donations, corporate sponsorships and grants. Their management team is an unsalaried board of directors.”

 

 The Pet Project does so much for our little furry, feathered and scaly friends.  First of all, they want to make sure all pets have plenty of food in their little bellies.  During tough times, many families have a bit of a financial crunch and find it difficult to buy pet food…The Pet Project helps with that.  Once-in-a-while a sneaky pet gets out and finds himself lost…The Pet Project helps get the word out via ‘Iowa Pet Alert’ , and sometimes an animal needs a temporary foster home...and they hope to help with that soon.

  The Pet Project does so much good stuff!

 

There are many ways you can help with or be a part of The Pet Project Midwest.  They have many exciting outlets you can volunteer for, OR maybe donating pet food or kitty litter is more your bag.  Whatever it is, I know they greatly appreciate any help you can give them.

 

Who doesn't love a warm snuggly puppy, or an older pet who has been with you and loved you, maybe even when others have not.  Our pets give us so much love. Lets celebrate that unconditional love by picking up an extra bag of kibble this week and donate it to The Pet Project Midwest!
