Two blogs ago, we introduced you to a wonderful, useful little guy.  He's able to do all kinds of nice things, like hold your keys or business cards.  He doesn't mind if you hang things off of his legs or arms....and he’s very likeable too.

 

He’s green, he’s bendy, he has a great place on his tummy for a logo, and he has a huge heart!  The only thing he didn’t have was a name!  Well he does now!

 

We introduced him to you and asked for your help and you gave it to us.  We had several entries, but only the entries that were left on the blog comments counted.

There Are Just No Words to Describe This...

 

 

The Man Who Has No Name...

We need your help!  We need a name for our darling little green man with the huge heart!  What are we talking about you ask?  Well let me tell you about him!

The first thing you'll notice about him is that he's very smart and a little angelic. 

 

He's always willing to hold things and keep track of them for you when you're busy. 

 

He doesn't even mind paperwork! 

He's a gentleman and always removes his hat whenever a lady is around! 

 

But as wonderful as this little guy is, he doesn't have a name yet! Oh sure, we've  tossed a few around, but we can't seem to agree on anything. One suggestion was 'Magnetic Man' (Whoa! Captain Obvious), another was 'Bendy Ben' (Eww), someone else suggested 'Brad Pitt (Seriously?) and then someone suggested 'Mr. Wonderful', but I informed them that, that name was already taken by our boss (wink, wink...hoping for some brownie points here). 

As you can tell...we need HELP!!  Don't leave us holding the bag...

I Got Worms!!

Yes!  ESP has WORMS!!   

July 15^th is National Gummi Worm Day and we didn’t want to be left out!  So while you still have time…go out and get worms!!

So You Wanna Be a Rock Star…

So you think you wanna be a rock star, huh?  A person can’t just ‘BE’ a rock star.  There are certain criteria one must meet.  You don’t simply wake up one day and say, “Hey! I’m going to be the next Mick Jagger or Jon Bon Jovi”. 

 

It’s more than just playing an instrument or having tight, black leather pants.  It’s an attitude, a certain walk…even a way of acting like you don’t care.  Of course there is the standard long, matted hair that hasn’t been washed in who-knows-how-long, or in some cases the short spiky stuff that would puncture flesh and send you to the emergency room for stitches.  It’s eyeliner, piercings, tattoos, weird shoes, hair weaves and as always, bathing is optional. 

 

But there is more to the whole rock star persona…much more.  It’s a ‘take no prisoners attitude’, it’s demanding and confident.  You must ‘act’ famous (even if you’re not) and if you have only ONE name…you get extra points! 

 

To be a rock star you should demand all sorts of things in your contract:

4)  One live bat (in case you’re the Ozzy Osbourne type)

And the list goes on….

NOW who’s the Rock Star?!

Party Line...

A memory washed over me the other day.  I’m not sure what brought this blast from the past, but something caused me to remember “Party Lines”.

 

I have a feeling most readers won’t even remember or know what a party line is.  For you who do not know, a party line is where several families in different homes all share ONE phone line.  Yes, you heard me right…one line!  Which means, when you wanted to make a call, you had to first pick up the line and listen to see if anyone else was already on it.  Yes…you could actually listen in on their conversations!  Some times it was only two or three households who shared a line, and sometimes it was up toward twenty! 

 

Of course now, with every member of the family having their own cell phone, finding a moment to talk on one landline isn’t a big deal, but in the ‘olden days’, even without being on a party line, you had to jockey for position to be able to use the family phone!  But imagine if you will, not only having to share it with your family, but with multiple families!  Believe me, it could be very frustrating at times.

 

But here is the fun/interesting part.  You learned EVERYTHING about everyone!  All it took was for one snoopy neighbor to listen in on your conversation and soon the whole town would know your business.  It was a great way to get the word out….both the good AND the bad!  Yikes!

 

Everyone knew better than to mention any secrets on the party line, but it seemed to happen quite often.  Aunt Tillie would tell Gladys how Myrtle’s pie won the blue ribbon at the fair only because she stole the secret recipe from Barbara’s winning pie from the year before…and because someone else was listening in on the conversation, soon everyone in town knew!  Of course that’s nothing compared to some of the other ‘secrets’ that would be overheard!

 

We’ve come a long way baby!  Since those days, we’ve found much better ways to spread news!  Not the dirt on people, but to spread the good stuff!  Like getting the word out about your charity organization, or the specialties of your business or maybe even the town’s Fall Pumpkin Festival!

America!

Why is America great?  We’re certainly not perfect, and we obviously don’t have all the answers (just listen in on a congressional session some time) and we still have some issues that we all wonder if they’ll ever get resolved.  BUT…we still have our freedom! 

 

We’re still free to voice our opinion, to worship as we choose….or we can choose not to.  We can vote, drive, go to school, buy a home, own property, start a business….and the list goes on.

 

Our country has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, everything from white sand beaches, to dense forests....to a high, snowy mountain top!  And don’t forget the golden waves of grain!  I think I feel a song coming on!

 

America….we have baseball, apple pie, picnics, barbeques and the ice cream man.  John Wayne, parades, dog parks, Michael Jackson (had to throw him in there), carnivals and cotton candy.  We also have county fairs, state fairs, blue ribbons, stuff-on-a-stick and butter cows!

 

We have it all.  Most of all we have each other.  America, where we’ve pulled together time and time again.  Always there to help and support each other when disaster strikes.  No nation on the face of this earth bands together the way we Americans do.  We may squabble amongst ourselves, but when times are tough, we’re always there holding each other up.  That’s why we are the UNITED States of America.

 

This weekend I will eat BBQ, watch fireworks and go to a parade where I KNOW, (with my hand over my heart) I’ll shed a tear when the colour guard carrying MY flag walks by.  I’ll celebrate our great country along with everyone else.  But I wonder how many people take it for granted?  This weekend let’s tell each other and especially our children, the stories of what makes this the best nation in the world!
