Kiss and Make Up Day…

Today, August 25^th, is National Kiss and Make Up Day!

 

Admit it, we’ve all had them…those little tiffs we get into with our friends or significant other, usually over some dumb thing that really doesn’t matter. We argue, stomp our foot and just have an all round hissy fit. Sometimes cruel words are exchanged and feelings get hurt.

 

WHY do we do that?  We should save it for something really worth fighting over.  Why do we go through all that agony for over something so dumb? 

 

Well maybe…..just maybe, we do it so we can kiss and make up!!  Not that we need an excuse to give our loved one a big, sloppy smooch, but maybe after a bandy battle of bickering, the sweetness of the kiss is even more gratifying!

 

So how about (at least for today) we skip the fight and go straight for the ‘making up’ part!

Doesn't Anyone Have Any GOOD News Anymore?

Floods, famine, pestilence, murder and mayhem!  This is the ‘news’ we get to read about every day.  I KNOW there is good stuff going on in the world, but that never seems to make it on the front page…or the second, or the third…

 

I know for a fact that good news out weighs the bad…it really does.  It’s all around us!  I’m a firm believer that only a very small percentage of folks have no ‘good’ in them….only it never makes the news.  Kinda sad, huh?

 

If you would, allow me to share with you what one of Exceptional Specialty Products's very own clients is doing.  Meet ‘The Pet Project Midwest’. 

 

“The Pet Project Midwest came together in August 2009 when five women, each passionate about animal welfare, began a conversation about their dreams for making Iowa a better place for animals. They soon realized there was a need for action and that by working together they could make their dreams a reality.

Today, The Pet Project Midwest is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals in Iowa and surrounding states. They receive financial support through private donations, corporate sponsorships and grants. Their management team is an unsalaried board of directors.”

 

 The Pet Project does so much for our little furry, feathered and scaly friends.  First of all, they want to make sure all pets have plenty of food in their little bellies.  During tough times, many families have a bit of a financial crunch and find it difficult to buy pet food…The Pet Project helps with that.  Once-in-a-while a sneaky pet gets out and finds himself lost…The Pet Project helps get the word out via ‘Iowa Pet Alert’ , and sometimes an animal needs a temporary foster home...and they hope to help with that soon.

  The Pet Project does so much good stuff!

 

There are many ways you can help with or be a part of The Pet Project Midwest.  They have many exciting outlets you can volunteer for, OR maybe donating pet food or kitty litter is more your bag.  Whatever it is, I know they greatly appreciate any help you can give them.

 

Who doesn't love a warm snuggly puppy, or an older pet who has been with you and loved you, maybe even when others have not.  Our pets give us so much love. Lets celebrate that unconditional love by picking up an extra bag of kibble this week and donate it to The Pet Project Midwest!

Today, August 13th is National Lefthanders Day! The holiday was first observed on this day in 1976 as an effort to promote awareness of the inconveniences facing left-handers in a predominantly right-handed world.

They SAY that lefties are the only ones in their ‘right mind’.  (Uh…yeah)

With only 7 to 10 percent of the population in the ‘club’, leftys tend to be male, which means that the left-handed females are truly special!

Stuff-On-A-Stick...

Octodogs, Twinkie Logs, Monkey Tails, Hot Bologna and Chicken Lips are all foods to be found On-A-Stick at the Iowa State Fair this year. 

 

 

I don’t know about you, but some of these ‘food items’ sound rather disturbing to me.  What are we doing to our small children?  Besides all being horribly bad-for-you type foods, the names are such that might send some kids straight into counseling!  “Come on Johnny, eat your chicken lips or there will be no OctoDogs for you”. Ick!

 

But hey…it’s the Iowa State Fair!  It only comes around once a year so why not?  Go ahead…indulge!

 

It seems that everyone has a gimmick.  We have everything from geckos selling insurance to squirrels selling guttering.  So, what would a State Fair – especially one as fine as the IOWA State Fair be without the ever-so-popular food-on-a-stick?  (and who can forget the butter cow?)  Ah...the fair!

Limey Does RAGBRAI – A Story in Pictures…

Remember ‘Limey’?  He’s our little green friend who is not only cute, but helps us out during the day.  This past week, he went on his first RAGBRAI!!  Follow along while he tells us of his adventures….

 

It all started at the Missouri River in Sioux City, Iowa where we all dipped our back tires in the water.  From here we had about 450 miles before we could dip our front tires in the Mississippi River!

 

 

Our accommodations were very comfortable.

 

They even had a special place to charge our phones!  Of course with 20,000 people all trying to talk at once, it was hard to get a call to go through!

We had lots of friendly neighbors!

 

Up bright and early....and away we go...!

 

You never know WHO you'll see on RAGBRAI (or how many of them there will be)! Who said Elvis was dead?

 

Sometimes you need to take a little break along the way...

 

And the bathroom choices were interesting.  You could go here....

 

Or here....my personal favorite...

 

There were a few hills that weren't so fun....

 

And sometimes it was a little crowded...

 

But we had some BIG FUN... (yes, that is an elephant)

 

And saw some beautiful Iowa cities...

 

...and countrysides...

 

AND...some interesting BIKES!

 

And then FINALLY, after days and days of peddling, we made it to our final destination....Dubuque, Iowa and the Mighty Mississippi where we dipped our front tires into the water!

 

My first RAGBRAI was a fun and memorable time.  When people saw me riding along, many looked twice!  Probably because I'M so memorable!  You know, if you had your own 'Limey' people would notice you too!  Your logo can be imprinted right on my tummy!  I'm magnetized and am even strong enough to hold your bike helmet for you!
